Letter from Eleanor LeMaire regarding Stanley Marcus suggesting the little Mermaid bar name for the NorthPark café, August 21, 1964.

The Mermaid Bar at NorthPark sits in the presence of fanciful mermaid statues and the other effervescent artwork and ceramics designed by Danish artist Bjorn Wiinblad. They have been present in this location since NorthPark and Neiman Marcus opened in 1965. On the menu, choose from a selection of salads, sandwiches, specialties, sweets.

Eleanor LeMaire, educated at the Parsons School of Design, was chosen to be a designer of interiors as opposed to a decorator. The NM store used her in 1941, and again in 1948 for a two floor expansion and redecoration of the downtown store. Stanley was so pleased with her work, he used her services for the next thirty years for designing interiors for new stores, including the North Park location, and remodeling until her death in 1970.
