This is the second issue with the Sequel to Drum Taps that includes the famous “When Lilacs Last in the Door-Yard Bloom’d” and “O Captain, My Captain.” This copy belonged to Charles Hine who prepared the frontispiece portrait for the third edition of Leaves of Grass in 1860. Hine gave this copy to his friend John Mathews in 1870. In addition, this copy made its way thru other hands. An inscription on the front fly leaf reads “to John Lane from Arthur Stedman -- Re-Christening of Sir Thomas Bodley, New York, October 9, 1896.”
