Description
This treasury warrant was issued in Houston by the Government of Texas. The note is payable in dollars of the Republic of Texas. The note is bordered on all sides by imprinted lines. The left edge of the note contains the imprinted image of a woman with her right foot on a sphere. The left edge of the note contains the vertically printed imprint 'Draper, Toppan, Longacre & Co. Phila & NY'. The upper center of the note contains '50' imprinted in decorative borders to the left and right of an image of a Native American man hunting a buffalo. 'No.' followed by the handwritten '38' is imprinted in the upper left corner, and 'A' is imprinted in the upper right corner. The body of the note contains the imprinted phrases, 'The Government of Texas Promises to pay to the Bearer at the Treasury Department in One Year from date, the sum of Five Dollars and Interest thereon at the rate of ten per cent per annum, by virtue of an Act of Congress dated 9.th June 1837. Houston, Texas' followed by the handwritten date '5 Jany 1839' with the digits '18' imprinted. The lower center of the note contains the handwritten 'R. G. Dunlap' followed by the imprinted title 'Treasr.' and the handwritten 'Mirabeau B. Lamar' followed by the imprinted title 'Prest.'
